"It's unbelievable here. It's like heaven."

"On behalf of our family and the many impacted by hospice care, we would like to take this opportunity to recognize one of the most truly caring places on earth - right here in our own backyard in Miramichi New Brunswick - Percy's Place.

Not only do we speak for ourselves, but most certainly for the countless other families and loved ones before us who were also fortunate enough to have been touched and blessed by their kindness during some of the most difficult and trying days of their lives.

In our case, we recently lost the patriarch of our family to a long battle with cancer. Though he fought valiantly - like many before him - he was unable to beat it. This letter however is not one about sorrow or defeat, but rather an opportunity to highlight the local heroes that dedicate their lives to helping others in need and comforting them at a time in their lives when comfort seems no more than a fleeting memory.

After more than 100 days in the Moncton Hospital, an opportunity arose for transfer home to Percy's Place. We say home because not only did this allow him to be back in his beloved Miramichi, but because that is also exactly how he was treated by the staff - like family.

Despite the palliative nature of his disease, when he arrived at Percy's Place you could see it in his eyes - he had a new lease on life. Though unable to walk, the care and kindness he received helped to put the proverbial spring back in his step. He instantly bonded with the staff, and we kid you not when we say that he was so happy to be home that he actually moved his legs excitedly at one point as if to dance in bed - Something that we had not seen in ages.

None of us will soon forget the way he first described Percy's Place, and it is no coincidence that we all soon came to feel exactly same way. In his own words he said it best, and quite frankly, he said it for all of us, describing Percy's Place in only six words; "it's unbelievable here. It's like heaven."

The truth is, words alone will never be able to express the sincere thanks, gratitude, and love that we have for a group of people who don't just simply go to work, but who walk through the doors at Percy's Place truly caring about those in their charge, and who by doing so, forever change the lives of others.

To the unsung heroes at Percy's Place - including Gerard and Judy Losier who made it a reality - we will forever be indebted. From all of us here in the Miramichi; a very sincere THANK YOU, from the bottom of our hearts."
